The lighting of WakeMed's annual Love Light Tree will take place on Monday, December 5 at 6 pm on the Raleigh Campus located at 3000 New Bern Avenue. The tree lighting provides an opportunity to remember and cherish loved ones during the holiday season.
Immediately following the tree lighting, children and parents are invited to Trim the Tree with Twinkle, a festive evening of singing, holiday goodies and ornament-making with Twinkle, WakeMed Children's mascot.
The annual ceremony at WakeMed is a fundraising event planned by the WakeMed Foundation that directly benefits children's services. The Foundation is dedicated to enhancing relationships between WakeMed and the community, and to pursuing long-range, broad-based funding for health care programs and activities at WakeMed.
The Love Light Tree tradition started in 1985 with the generosity of Dr. Bill and Colleen Lee, who donated the first Love Light Tree in memory of their son, Matthew William Lee. Today, the tradition continues as Love Light donations are made in honor or memory of someone special. Each year the tree is lit by one of WakeMed’s former pediatric patients. This year’s Love Light Family is the Baxley’s, former WakeMed patients.
